This online 8 hour refresher training course satisfies the OSHA annual HAZWOPER refresher training requirements for workers, managers, and supervisors as outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120 and 1926.65.
Every day, workers in various business industries come in close contact with hazardous materials. Without proper safety training, exposure to hazardous materials can pose short- and long-term threats to their health and safety. The federal Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) standard regulates hazardous waste operations from inception to disposal.
Who This Course is For
This course is for:
HAZWOPER 8 training is required by OSHA as detailed in 29 CFR 1910.120. Training requirements apply to all on-site workers, even those not directly involved with hazardous substances. The potential for contamination requires workers to be fully trained and protected pursuant to the HAZWOPER standard.
The OSHA 8-hour recertification requirement applies to employees, managers, and supervisors who have completed 24- or 40-hour HAZWOPER training. Anyone who may be exposed to hazardous substances and health hazards needs HAZWOPER 8 certification. This includes (but is not limited to) general site workers, utility workers, cleanup operations, corrective actions, emergency response, facilities, and more.
🔉Consequences For Not Training?
Case Study: A & A Environmental Inc. is a mold and asbestos abatement company in Poynette, Wisconsin. During an OSHA visit, inspectors uncovered asbestos. Asbestos exposure occurs when workers somehow disturb asbestos-containing materials (by cutting, sanding, or otherwise uncovering the asbestos). This releases asbestos fibers, which can be inhaled if employees do not have proper protection. Asbestos can cause lung disease and mesothelioma (an often-fatal cancer of the lung or stomach lining). Because asbestos fibers remain on clothing, they easily transfer to other surfaces (like other clothing, upholstery, and carpets). This creates a danger of secondary exposure for others outside of the asbestos site.
In October of 2016, OSHA issued A & A Environmental four willful and nine serious health violations totaling $243,716. These included a failure to follow asbestos removal standards, which require employers to provide a separate room for asbestos containment equipment and create a decontamination area (with an area for employees to shower and remove work clothing before leaving the worksite). It also required employers to make sure that employees did not drink beverages inside the asbestos containment area.

The HAZWOPER standard for General Industry is outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120. The HAZWOPER standard for the construction industry, 29 CFR 1926.65, is identical to 29 CFR 1910.120 for general industry.

How long is this course and how long do I have to complete it?
It will take a MINIMUM of 8 hours to complete this online course. The student may log on and off as needed. A bookmark will be set so when they log back in they will return to where they left off.

How often is retraining or recertification required?
All employees, managers, and supervisors must complete eight hours of refresher training annually to maintain HAZWOPER compliance and work on sites requiring HAZWOPER certification. This HAZWOPER 8 refresher online training course meets the requirements for both 24-hour and 40-hour certifications.
Continuing education credits?
Each student will receive 0.75 CEUs (or 8 CMEs) from Compliance Training Online® for completing this course.
